This was an illustration for a story by Bonnie Blake in On Spec.

In the story the author introduces the alien idea of germiliving, where you live on in a sense through seeds. In the illustration, I re-created the setting of the story but also compositionally linked the jam with the seeds, to the unusual flowers and finally the clearly alien UFOs.

The entire illustration was done using the 3D modelling and rendering software Ray Dream Studio by Metacreations. I had originally intended to use the software to only help me with the perspective of what was to be a line drawing. The rendering of the transparent and refractive jam and jam jar took over 16 hours compared to minutes for the UFO alone.
