Distant Seas was the first illustration I did for On Spec, the Canadian magazine of Speculative Fiction. This was my first commission sale and led to many more illustrations. The Monk was the second illustration I did for On Spec.

Distant Seas was done using the tradiional pen and ink method where the original illustration is done in pencil and then inked over with india ink so that it can be reproduced. The original pencil drawing is then erased. In contrast, The Monk was produced digitally, complementing the subject matter.
