Making History

For the short story, Making History, by Chris Brayshaw in On Spec.

When I got this assignment, I don't think the art director realized that Chris and I were friends. I was given the assignment specifically because I had lived on the West Coast where the story was set even though I was living on the East Coast at the time.

Symbolically, the story had the image of the giant black mythological Raven beating its wings over the waves of the Pacific Ocean. And so, the image had to come into the illustration. Although it is not obvious in such a small reproduction, the oil slick/shadow points to the protagonist of the story standing on the beach at Skedans.
