Necklace (IVF)

Necklace is a cover illustration for E-scape.

The illustration was originally conceived when I was doing sketches for On Spec when they were looking for computer illustrators. I eventually went on to produce Masks as a final illustration for their talent search which lead to work on The Monk.

There are a number or themes to this illustration. It is a statement on the development of reproductive technologies for in vitro fertilization (IVF). How, through reproductive technolgies, in one sense children are perceived as precious and also perceived as trophies. How each generation is more technologically advanced and immersed. How technology is both a blessing and a curse by separating people from the mystery of conception and development.

The figures were posed in Poser 3, the child (fetus) being a child figure (original model by Zygote) modified by judicious disproportionate resizing. Both figures were brought into RayDream Studio where the details of the necklace were added. The final image was then touched up in Corel PhotoPaint.
